Cultural Listening

Every day EntityX analyses the millions of web pages that are being read by real people. We can see the things they are reading about, and using our unique technology, we can understand how those individual things are connected, revealing the deeper cultural meaning. This enables us to identify what’s trending right now.

Since our data is collected anonymously and in aggregate from the pages that people are reading, we can collect ‘observed’ data, and see the topics they are actually engaging with. This is much more rigorous than simply analysing what a small self-selected group of people are sharing on social media.

We call this cultural listening.

INSIGHTS INTO HUMAN BEHAVIOUR

EntityX collects billions of data points every day, allowing us to see what real people are reading about, and the individual things (entities) that are most popular right now.

For example, we worked with a food delivery business who wanted to understand when customers were thinking about cooking their own food and when they were contemplating ordering take-away food. We tracked the individual entities for ‘recipe’ and ‘take-out’.

We revealed when customers read more about ‘recipe’ (afternoon to 6pm) and about ‘take-outs’ (evening, with a peak in the early hours).

These insights were shared with the client in regularly monthly reports together with a range of other bespoke insights around types of cuisine, types of household, and competitor brands. This enabled the client to improve their customer understanding but specifically to dynamically optimise their online advertising.

 

DISCOVER RELATED TRENDS

Our unique technology analyses how things (entities) are connected to each other. This means we can also reveal ‘related trends’.

These related trends enables brands to understand better the interests of their customers, creating dynamic insights that reflect the ever-changing interests and trends of real customers.

For example, as we tracked what World Cup football fans were reading about we found that beyond the obvious football entities, a number of related topics stood out. In particular, one of the most related entities was ‘Amnesty International’ reflecting the large number of references to human rights.

Brands can use these insights to improve their customer understanding, refining their communications, advertising and content.

 

FOLLOW EMERGING TRENDS

Every day we see the millions of things (entities) that people are reading about and we track these trends over time. This enables us to identify which individual things have seen the biggest growth over time. We track the entities with the biggest sustained growth, representing new and emerging trends.

For example, at the beginning of the World Cup we saw a number of individual players start to trend such as Bukayo Saka.

In other projects brands have tracked competitor brands, competitor products and new product features, looking out for any new emerging trends that they can benefit from to retain competitive advantage.
